MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – (Marketwire) – March 24, 2009

VeriSign (NASDAQ: VRSN) Enterprise Security Services today announced the availability of its Web Application Firewall Management Service, enabled through a strategic agreement with Imperva, the leading provider of application and database security technology. The service enables VeriSign to provide customers worldwide with a premium service that includes efficient deployment, management and monitoring of the SecureSphere Web Application Firewall. While Web Application Firewalls are an increasingly critical part of an overall application security strategy, they can require significant resources and expertise. Support for the Imperva SecureSphere Web Application Firewall makes VeriSign Managed Security Services the first Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) to deliver this technology as a managed service.

“A primary concern for our enterprise customers is the security of the data and the need for additional controls at the application layer, not only for broader security visibility but to meet compliance requirements,” said Scott Magrath, vice president of VeriSign Managed Security Services. “The ability to implement leading Web Application Firewall technology from Imperva without having to add incremental staff or distract the IT team of their core responsibilities is important to CISOs, especially in challenging economic conditions.”

While enabling information exchange with customers and partners through Web Applications opens new opportunities for business and collaboration, protecting these applications and underlying data is one of the most challenging aspects of information security. A Web Application Firewall can help protect online applications against sophisticated application-level attacks like SQL injection and cross-site request forgery, prevent theft and leakage of data from online applications, and meet the PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) application security requirement. Complemented by a comprehensive suite of application security services from VeriSign Global Security Consulting, the Web Application Firewall Management Service further addresses security at the application layer with the delivery of targeted protective and detective security controls in a managed service model.

As a leading provider of Managed Security Services, VeriSign leverages platform expertise, industry best practices, and proprietary methodologies to manage thousands of devices while identifying and responding to billions of real-time security events annually. The service is fully integrated into VeriSign’s market leading security management platform, Teraguard, the service-focus backend which provides device management, event monitoring and correlation across hundreds of enterprise customers. Management, monitoring, and support from VeriSign’s expert staff of security analysts is available 24/7, thereby helping relieve an organization from the unrelenting and time-consuming responsibility of safeguarding corporate information assets.

“We are pleased to be working with VeriSign to extend the reach and value of our Web Application Firewall and Database Security technology,” said Chris Cesio, VP Worldwide Channel and MSSP Sales for Imperva. “Enabling their leading managed security service platform to support SecureSphere will help resource-constrained IT departments to maintain compliance and optimize performance for securing critical data through web applications.”

In addition to supporting the Imperva Web Application Firewall, VeriSign is developing support of the SecureSphere database security and audit solutions to complement the VeriSignR Web Application Firewall Management Service. The addition of database support will provide VeriSign analysts with key data sets that will play a significant role in assessing the full path of a threat. This service enhancement will also assist organizations in meeting compliance with regulations such as SOX, HIPAA, GLBA, PCI and NERC.
